The family overlooking Emerald bay. We hiked down to Vikingsholm and had a picnic on the beach. Eric's comment was, "We hiked all the way down here just for lunch?!" They did get to play in the water and sand. They had a lot of fun!
Pictures really do not do it justice!
The Story of Fallen Leaf Lake Campground
There was a "perfect" campsite that our wonderful friends scouted out for our 2 families. It was large with places for at least 5 tents!! It was surrounded by a dryed up creekbed. There were logs and rocks to frolick on and around. The children were quite content. We set up camp and started our fire for our "pocket/hobo/tinfoil/etc." stews. Little did we know that lurking around us were tons and tons of what we like to call, meat bees. Well, I don't call them that anymore, I call them, mean, nasty YELLOW JACKETS! If you listened to Sadie's song, you will here the part about the bees on her food. Well, that evening Jordan was minding his own business and just sat in a chair next to the fire. A nasty YJ somehow got in his shorts and stung him on his waist! Not a great start to our weekend. The next morning we started making our bacon early so that the nasty YJ's would not be as bad. We also set aside some meat away from camp. They were quite bothersome, but we made it though breakfast. In the meantime, the children were playing down this in the creekbed when we heard some serious crys. First, I saw Jordan screaming and holding his eye. Next, was my poor, sweet Eric with NASTY YJ's all over his head. So, I did what any mother would do and screamed for him to run to me. I was smacking him so hard on the head that I kept apologizing for hitting him. We ran into the tent, one YJ came out of someones clothing, we screamed and got out. Then we ran to the van, another YJ comes out and we screamed and scurried out of the van, then we got back in the van. When the crying began to subside the praying began. After a good 20-30 minutes, we made our way back out the van and stayed close to the fire. Jordan was afraid to sit in a chair of course.
All Eric had done was throw a rock which didn't land very far away from him. It landed onto a YJ nest in a hole in the ground. My poor boys. Eric had a few stings, Jordan had one under the eye, and I got it on the wrist. What drama had unfolded at the Fallen Leaf Lake campsite #21!~
